UK Class 1 Renewal/Revalidation

How to prepare for your medical

A UK/EASA Class 1 medical is a requirement for your CPL (Commercial Pilots Licence) and ATPL (Airline Transport Pilots Licence).

Please bring with you:

  • Current passport (for all Class 1 medicals)

  • Most recent medical certificate

  • Most recent Opticians report (plus extended ophthalmology examination form if required)

  • Copies of any relevant Specialist Medical/GP Reports â€‹

  • UK: Complete Cellma application process online before attending

How often do I need a Class 1 Medical?

This depends on whether you plan to fly as single or multi-pilot and is also dependent on your age.

If you hold a CPL you will require a medical every 12 months.

A medical is required every 6 months above the age of 60 years.

Do I need any other tests?

The UK CAA require all pilots to have a finger prick test every year to rule out anaemia. Some pilots may also be required to use the same test to check their cholesterol levels.

An audiogram (hearing test) is required every 5 years above the age of 40 years.

This is then required every 2 years above the age of 60 years.

Comprehensive eye tests may be required depending on your glasses prescription and other eye conditions.

Pilots develop medical conditions like everyone else. The UK CAA may require some pilots to pursue an onward referral to a Consultant Specialist prior to  obtaining a Medical Certificate. This can be arranged with a Specialist of your choice or via known Consultants to us.

ECG (Electrocardiogram) and Cardiology Review

ECG are tracings of the electrical activity within the heart muscle. ECGs may be required every 5 years (below 30 years), every 2 years (30-40years), every 12 months (40-50 years) and at every medical above 50 years.

Sometimes your ECG may need to be sent to a local Cardiologist for an opinion.

We have established a link with cardiologists across the region.

At this time we are unable to perform initial Class 1 medical examinations .
